It is estimated that up to 35% of the worlds population suffers from mild to chronic sleep disorders. From America to Europe to Asia the modern world does much to keep us up-tight and up all night.
End the misery of sleepless nights by trying some or all of the following home remedies.
The reason is you will teach yourself to fall asleep during your session and this is not effective. The key to using meditation is doing so when you will not fall asleep. Practicing this daily will help you relax and remove stress. With stress relief you will find yourself better able to get a restful nights sleep.
Cures for Insomnia #2: Drink Apple Cider Vinegar. It has magnesium which is necessary for restful sleep. When the body is low in this important mineral it produces neurotransmitters which over-stimulate the brain and keep you from sleeping.
Cures for Insomnia #3: Turkey has tryptophan which the body
converts into serotonin and melatonin which both promotes sleep. You
shouldn`t eat this at night however. Eat it at lunch time which is when
you should consume most of your days protein. Be sure not to load
yourself with processed carbohydrates as that is what the body uses to
convert the tryptophan in melatonin.
By consuming protein at lunch and only a small amount of complex
carbohydrates you will find it helps keep the afternoon lows to a
minimum and helps you focus.
For your evening meal leave off the
protein and include things like brown rice, corn on the cob, ginger tea
and banana`s as these have both what the body needs to convert the
tryptophan, (from the turkey you ate at lunch), as well as their own
components that the body will convert to melatonin for a double whammy
and just what you need for a good nights sleep.
Cures for Insomnia #4: Take a relaxing bath with lavender essential oil. Take the time to really relax and enjoy this bath. Afterward`s you will feel refreshed, but in a very relaxed state.
Cures for Insomnia #5: Giving your body the vitamins and nutrition it needs will go along way to helping sleep. Vitamin B complex which includes all the B`s are paramount to a good nights sleep. These vitamins help regulate a number of bodily functions. Tuna and other deep sea water fish are good sources of niacin, a particularly helpful B vitamin for this condition.
Insomnia Remedies #6: Valerian is the best known herbal treatment, but I recommend combining it with chamomile for best results. Each of these herbs are helpful for relaxing and aiding sleep, but for those with insomnia combining the two is often what it takes to get results.
Cures for Insomnia #7: We have already mentioned using lavender oil for a relaxing bath, but many find it helpful to add a couple of drops to a tissue and placing under their pillow. This aromatherapy works well for insomnia.
Cures for Insomnia #8: Get more Sunlight. Studies have shown that those who get low levels of exposure to sunlight suffer higher rates of insomnia.
As soon as you rise in the morning open the curtains and enjoy your coffee where you can get direct sunlight. Take an early morning walk. Walking 20 or 30 minutes every morning is not only good exercise, but doing so outside in the sunshine will give you needed exposure to the sun. Look for opportunities to get at least 20 minutes of sunshine a day.
Cures for Insomnia #9: Eating right and exercise are absolute
must to prepare the body to receive a good nights sleep. Eat
more whole foods for better health and sleep. In the morning eat
lots of fiber along with some tofu or a handful of nuts or an egg for
protein.
Most of your days protein should be consumed at lunch as this
will help you mind focus and stave off the afternoon lulls. The evening
meal should be your smallest and should consist of soups and complex
carbohydrates. Try not to eat for 3 hours before bedtime.
