In the 1950`s obesity represented less then 10% of the American population and England had even lower rates. It is now estimated that 67% of all adult Americans are overweight or obese. That is 2/3`s of all Americans. England among other European countries have seen similar increases. A full 70 million Americans are more then 50lbs(23kg) over their ideal weight.
As a Japanese wife to an American husband who was 160lbs(73kg) over
his ideal weight at the time of our marriage, this prevailing problem
is of special interest to me.
Even more of a problem is that it is estimated that 30% of children in the west are overweight and 15% of those are considered obese.
While I have never experienced the weight gain my husband has, I did pack on 30lbs(14kg) after an injury that prevented my continuing to be a stage performer and professional dancer here in Japan. After a couple of years I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and start getting healthy again.
I married my husband for love and because I believe God brought us together, and so my interest in his loosing weight was only for health concerns and not any concerns of vanity. As many of you that have read other parts of this site know, my husband has now lost approaching 90lbs using these weight loss home remedies, and continues to loose slowly, but surely; which is by design.
Many have expressed to us that they believe that Japanese and other
Asians have some genetic link that keeps them skinny. But we know many
Japanese, Koreans and other Asians that go to America and when they
first arrive they find it difficult to eat many of the foods because
they are too sweet.
But after living there a couple of years their taste adjust and they too eat sweeter, more highly processed foods and get fat. This is a clear indication that genetics is not nearly as much a factor as the foods and lack of daily exercise is.
The following are Asian and other weight loss home remedies
that I have found to be very effective. I could tell you... you could
lose 5lbs a week or 100lbs in under six months... and if you follow one
of the hundreds of gimmick diet plans then you may be temporarily
successful at doing just that.
Unfortunately these diets most often lead to further weight gain rather then loss. Your desire to change instantly and effortlessly is part of the very problem that lead you to where you are now.
If you truly want to have hope of successfully ending the insanity
of quick weight loss that leads to ever increasing weight gain, then
you will need to break this cycle and settle in for the hard work of
changing you instead just loosing weight. While that statement
may not be as popular as telling you how fast you can loose... it is
the important truth of the matter.
So if you want to loose 50lbs in six weeks and don`t care that with-in a few months you will gain back 70lbs and put your body on a cycle that will lead to morbid obesity, then you can follow one of the many crazy diet plans sold everyday at stores across America, Europe and now even here in Japan.
If you are ready to lose weight and keep it off forever... then follow these weight loss home remedies!
You need to plan on loosing 1lb a week. For those that are 50 - 100lbs or even hundreds of pounds overweight you may loose 2 or 3 pounds a week in the beginning even when following a sensible diet plan. But this should not be your goal. One pound a week is your goal.
Weight loss home remedies #2: It takes 3500 calories to equal 1 pound. To loose a pound a week we need to reduce our daily calories by 200 and we need to burn 300 calories with daily exercise. This is a total of 500 calories which will give us the 3500 calories needed to loose one pound a week. You can reduce the calories you are eating by changing the kinds of foods you are eating.
A carrot has 30 calories, but an equal portion of carrot cake has over 300 calories. If you choose the carrot over the cake you can eat ten times the volume of food for the same amount of calories. Along with the volume of food, you get the fiber and nutrition which will keep you feeling full. For those of you that think you can`t make this change, my husband felt the same way. Eating Little Debbie snack cakes by the box and drinking 4 liters of soda a day he thought making the change would be impossible.
By making small daily changes however, he learned to like vegetables and fruits and as he got away from eating so many sweets he began to enjoy the sweet taste of those foods. Keep at it and your taste will change.
In Japan most people ride their bicycles for short distances to
go shopping or other such activities. In addition we walk a lot. Most
Japanese ride trains to work during the week and we have no choice but
to walk to the train station and from the station to work and back
again.
We walk up stairs to the platform and back down. Daily exercise is in
our routine of daily living. I recommend that you make it a part of
yours. A thirty minute walk covering the distance of about 2 - 3
miles(4-5km), (depending on your fitness level), will burn the
necessary 300 calories a day needed for this weight loss and
maintenance plan.
Twice weekly you need to do 30 minutes of some resistance training. You can get a set of dumbbells or do some push ups and setups. Here in Japan it is often recommended to women that we lift a gallon(4 liters), of water for weight training. Crunches and knee lunges are also good. I personally recommend learning beginner Yoga or Tai Chi as these will not only tone muscle, but also increase balance.
Weight loss home remedies #5: Drink more water. You need to drink a large glass as soon as you rise in the morning and drink a glass every hour up until 3 hours before bed. You should not drink anything with your meals if possible or if you must then just a little water. You want the natural digestive fluids to be at their strongest and not dilute them with fluids. If you ever watch an animal, they eat when they eat and the drink when they drink.
Weight loss home remedies #6: Eat four or five meals a day instead of one or two. Your day should begin with a big meal full of fiber and a little protein. A good example would be a bowl of oatmeal with berries or prunes and sprinkled with wheat germ powder, along with a handful of nuts like walnuts or almonds. If you want to have a Japanese style breakfast you can try a bowl of brown rice with miso soup and fish.
At mid morning eat a piece of fruit or cut vegetables. For lunch eat 4 oz`s of lean meat or other complete protein sources. Good examples are deep sea water fish like mackerel and other good seafood would include oysters and tuna. For complete protein from vegetable based foods look to soy products like tofu for quality low calorie protein.
Eat a mid afternoon fruit or if you feel tired or unfocused add a small handful of nuts which will give you energy and mental focus. For dinner you should eat soup, grains, beans and vegetables, but no protein. This will help you get a better quality of sleep and keep your calories down when you are least active.
Weight loss home remedies #7: Include garlic, ginger, and cayenne peppers with your meals. Cayenne peppers will increase metabolism. Ginger will reduce inflammation which will allow the body to function more optimally. Garlic will increase energy and is well studied for a wide range of health benefits.
Weight loss home remedies #8: Drink green tea. This nutritional powerhouse has many useful benefits. Among its qualities is the ability to increase fat burning and slows down the bodies absorption rate of carbohydrates which prevents over production of insulin. You should drink at least 2 cups a day. Okinawa residents ( a small group of Islands in the southern most part of Japan), often drink an average of 5 cups a day. They have more people over the age of 100 then anywhere else on the planet. Obesity is almost non existent there.
Weight loss home remedies #9: Include miso soup with your lunch and diner. This soup made of fermented soy bean paste and natural sea salt helps reduce sugar and chocolate cravings. It is also low in calories and will help reduce appetite. Include wakame a seaweed and you have a very nutritious soup that will be an important element in your weight loss and management.
Weight loss home remedies #10: Eat an umeboshi every day. This is a pickled plum you can get at your International or Asian market and at many health food outlets. It will aid digestion and reduce sugar and chocolate cravings.
Many studies have also shown that those in healthy marriages have less stress then those that are single. Many today are electing to stay single for ever increasing amounts of time. My husband and I were in our late 30`s when we met so we understand, but we have both really experienced the life giving benefits of having a partner to depend on in life.
It has been shown under the rigors of science that those who actively practice a spiritual faith experience lower levels of stress. There are many spiritual faiths and there is one that will suit you. Reestablish a relationship with God and the universe and see your health improve.
It is so easy to look at the small picture when we have a problem like being overweight. Understanding that there are many factors that contribute will help you reach a permanent solution. We are not our bodies... we are our body, mind and spirit.
Remember that the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Why not make the home remedies on this site your first step to regaining health and well-being.
